Tottenham vs Arsenal: Dejan Kulusevski praises Aaron Ramsdale for north London derby display

Tottenham Hotspur winger Dejan Kulusevski has admitted to the club’s official website that he was impressed by Arsenal shot stopper Aaron Ramsdale after suffering defeat in the north London derby yesterday.

Spurs were completely outplayed by the Gunners in the first-half and found themselves a goal down inside the opening 15 minutes.

Hugo Lloris failed to deal with Bukayo Saka’s attempted cross and parried the ball into the back of his own net.

The Frenchman’s mistake set the tone for the rest of the first-half and Martin Odegaard doubled Arsenal’s advantage just 10 minutes before half-time.

Ramsdale was only called into action once during the opening 45 minutes as he denied Heung-Min Son from levelling the scoring. But the English shot stopper put in a commanding display in the second period and ensured there would be no comeback for Antonio Conte’s men yesterday.

Kulusevski praises Ramsdale

The Arsenal goalkeeper made a string of eye-catching saves to deny Ryan Sessegnon, Kulusevski and Harry Kane.

Ramsdale looked composed between the sticks and often took the pressure off of his defenders by coming out to claim the ball.

It was a stark contrast to the Tottenham captain’s performance and Kulusevski praised Ramsdale after the game.

“The goalkeeper did some good saves. Like I’ve said, if we don’t score, we don’t win,” he told Spurs Play

“We’ve got to just keep moving. We have an important next game.”

Arsenal were by far the better side on the day but they had to withstand some heavy pressure from Conte’s men in the second-half.

Ramsdale’s switch to Arsenal back in the summer of 2021 certainly raised some eyebrows at the time. The Gunners paid £30 million to take him from Bournemouth but it’s proving to be a brilliant piece of business.

It could have been a completely different outcome at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium yesterday if it wasn’t for Ramsdale as the Englishman stepped up to the task when called upon.
