Tottenham vs Arsenal: BBC pundit praises Martin Odegaard for north London derby display

BBC pundit Clinton Morrison was left amazed by Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard’s stunning first-half goal in the north London derby today.

Mikel Arteta’s men put in an emphatic first-half display as they completely dominated Tottenham.

The Gunners were rewarded inside the first 15 minutes as Hugo Lloris put Bukayo Saka’s attempted cross into his own net.

But Arsenal’s second goal of the game certainly had no element of luck involved as Odegaard produced a brilliant long-range effort.

The £30 million man found himself with plenty of space outside Tottenham’s penalty area and unleashed a shot into the bottom left-hand corner. And Morrison was full of praise for the playmaker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Morrison praises Odegaard

“The goal was brilliant. Lloris has to go long. Lenglet doesn’t want to go out,” Morrison said.

“Ball into Odegaard, the finish is brilliant. Not one midfielder or defender goes to engage with Odegaard. I wouldn’t say game over yet but it is getting close to that stage.”

Arsenal had to endure some heavy pressure from Tottenham at the beginning of the second-half, with Aaron Ramsdale coming up big when his side needed him.

But the Gunners did begin to take control of the game once again and Odegaard played a key role in the middle of the park.

The Arsenal captain has been exceptional under Arteta this season and has started to add goals to his game.

Arteta will be delighted with his side’s performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today and the win means Arsenal are now eight-points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The Gunners will remember all too well what happened at Spurs’ ground at the end of last season, but Arteta’s side have pushed on massively since.
