Tottenham transfer target now about to hold meeting with current club over his future
The Athletic have underlined that the Portuguese outfit will not let the right wing-back leave this month for anything less than his release clause.
That is €45million (£39.9 million) and the report claims that Spurs are unwilling to go to that valuation, despite being keen and pushing to sign him.
Manchester City are due a 30 per cent sell-on fee for the player they sold to Sporting, but will not be involved in any talks.
Porro and his agents set for Sporting talks
It remains to be seen how those talks will go, if Sporting are resolute that they will not accept anything less than their asking price.
And if Spurs are not willing to budge on their unwillingness to go to that level of almost £40 million, it looks difficult to do the deal.
But there is clearly some kind of optimism or hope, or the discussion over the player’s future most likely would not be taking place.
Spurs seemingly see right wing-back and a forward to add variety and competition to their squad as their two priorities this month.
When Sporting travelled to face Spurs in the Champions League, Jermaine Jenas claimed during commentary on BT Sport that if he was to pick a visiting player to take to Tottenham, it would be Porro.
“There’s a lot of talented players in the team, but if there was one I could take from this team it would be Porro. He is different class,” Jenas said.
Those games gave Spurs and Antonio Conte the chance to see the player up close, but top players cost money and that is the sticking point right now.
It remains to be seen what the upshot of these talks will be. Spurs will be hoping the door remains open to do a deal, but something will have to give.
