Tottenham transfer target is now not in first team training with current club

Leandro Trossard is not training with the Brighton first team amid transfer interest from Tottenham.

The Daily Mail report that Seagulls boss Roberto de Zerbi is not best impressed with his attitude, and has taken action after publicly criticising the Belgium international recently.

Last weekend, Trossard was left out of Brighton’s squad for their FA Cup win over Middlesbrough and when his manager was asked whether the speculation over his future is affecting the winter, he said: “I don’t know.

“I’d like to always play with Leo in the first eleven, but it doesn’t depend only on me, it depends on Leo. I want players that work for the team on the pitch and Leandro knows very well my opinion. I want more from him, because he can play better, he can work harder, he can run more on the pitch.

“I want players who give 100 per cent in every training session and every game. Without these characteristics, then they can’t play with me.”

The report says that Brighton are aware that Tottenham are tracking Trossard with a view to a potential swoop before the end of the January window.

His participation in tomorrow’s game against Liverpool is now in serious doubt, although he has also been struggling recently with a calf injury.

It seems that the situation at Brighton is worsening as opposed to improving and that only makes the prospect of an exit more likely.

Antonio Conte is a famously tough taskmaster as well though, and if there is a hint of an attitude problem if he did come to Spurs, he won’t be playing there either.

Conte needs the right types of characters in his squad too, not just people who have been there and done it, scoring ‘magnificent’ goals in the Premier League.

The Italian has shown with Djed Spence he is not scared to leave out a player the club has signed for him, and Trossard’s situation may be a red flag for Spurs, but we will wait and see how the situation plays out.
