Tottenham transfer: Spurs fans react to reports that deal is close
Tottenham are set to complete a major summer signing, with Sevilla star Bryan Gil set to head to North London. Fabrizio Romano claims that Erik Lamela will head the other way, with Spurs also forking out £21 million for his services.
The 20-year-old operates on either flank and will certainly bring some versatility to the Tottenham team. With Lamela going the other way, he will end an eight-year stay in North London.
Gil looks like an exciting signing for Tottenham. He is versatile, has bags of potential and has previously been labelled as the ‘Little Cruyff’ by Spanish outlet Marca.
In total, he’s only actually made 21 appearances for Sevilla, scoring two goals and claiming two assists for the La Liga outfit.
Lamela has largely struggled for consistency during his time at Tottenham. He will leave having played 257 times for the club, scoring 37 goals and claiming 47 assists.
Last season he scored a memorable goal against Arsenal. His cheeky rabona proved nothing more than a consolation strike as the Gunners beat their rivals 2-1.
On £80,000-a-week, Lamela is among the high earning Tottenham players and getting him off the wage bill makes perfect sense.
Swap deal imminent: Spurs fans excited by reports
This looks like a really good deal from a Tottenham perspective and as a result, it’s no surprise to see that fans are excited.
Gil looks like a promising young player and swapping him for Lamela makes perfect sense.
The Argentine winger has often flattered to deceive and it’d have been no surprise had the club sold him years ago.
Following today’s reports, fans have been reacting on Twitter. Here is what they had to say as an eye-catching deal looks to be imminent.
