Tottenham transfer news: Spurs yet to back up Marcus Edwards interest

The Evening Standard reports that Tottenham Hotspur have made the first move for Sporting Lisbon star Marcus Edwards, but Antonio Conte’s side are yet to back up their interest.

Edwards has made a name for himself in Portugal after leaving Tottenham to join Vitoria back in 2019. The 24-year-old failed to break into the first-team under Mauricio Pochettino after concerns over his application in training.

But he’s gone on to become one of the most talented players in Portugal since joining Sporting Lisbon just over a year ago.

The Englishman faced Spurs in the Champions League this season and certainly caught the eye as he got on the scoresheet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

A Bola reported last week that Sporting are aware of interest from Tottenham and that Edwards is keen on the idea of returning to north London.

But it seems that Conte’s men are yet to follow up their interest in their former player since the window opened 12 days ago.

The Evening Standard reports that Tottenham enquired about the possibility of signing Edwards last month.

But the club are yet to follow up on initial contact and the winger is now expected to make a decision over his future at the end of the season.

Spurs are in the market for another attacking player after injuries to Dejan Kulusevskl and Richarlison in recent weeks.

Bryan Gil has performed well off the right-hand side but Conte needs another quality option.

Heung-Min Son hasn’t been at his best either and it would benefit the side massively if they could bring in another option like Edwards. The winger has been described as an ‘insane’ talent since he left Spurs and Record reports that the north Londoners have been told they can re-sign him for £26 million.
