Tottenham transfer news: Spurs enter race to sign Alban Lafont
Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Alban Lafont, with Media Foot reporting that Hugo Lloris is expected to leave at the end of the season.
Lloris’ form is coming under real scrutiny right now. The 36-year-old has been an unbelievable servant for Spurs over the last decade following a £12 million move. And he has been the captain for much of that time.
However, he no longer appears to be one of the world’s best. He has made a number of errors for Tottenham this season. And the latest came in Sunday’s North London derby as he conceded an own goal to break the deadlock.
Tottenham want Alban Lafont
It appears imperative that Antonio Conte’s men find his successor sooner rather than later.
Journalist Darren Lewis told the Last Word on Spurs podcast this week that they have their eye on Illan Meslier. But it would appear that he is not the only French goalkeeper they could target.
Media Foot reports that Spurs have now entered the race to sign Lafont.
The report claims that the Nantes goalkeeper is ready to move and has set his sights on challenging for the France number one spot, which Lloris has recently vacated.
Lafont is only 23 years of age. And yet, he is Nantes’ captain with over 250 league appearances at the highest level under his belt. That is a remarkable return.
Signing someone who brings leadership to the table will be important considering who they will be replacing. And Lafont has also been described as a ‘top-class‘ goalkeeper in the past.
So it is hardly surprising that Tottenham now have their eye on the youngster as they weigh up life after Lloris.
