Tottenham transfer news: Sky Sports reporter shares Nicolo Zaniolo update
Tottenham Hotspur have just been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Nicolo Zaniolo.
Spurs had turned their attention to the Roma ace this month as Antonio Conte looks for attacking cover.
Tottenham were looking at Leandro Trossard, but with him going to Arsenal, Spurs turned their attentions elsewhere.
90Min recently reported that Spurs were ready to make a renewed attempt to bring Zaniolo to the English capital.
But just this evening, Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol said Roma weren’t going to sell or loan him this month.
The journalist also said Tottenham hadn’t made an offer.
Nonetheless, even if Spurs were to launch a bid in the coming weeks, it would be a no-go due to Roma’s stance.
“Zaniolo has been linked with a move to Spurs from Roma,” he said on The Transfer Show (19/1/23, 17:25).
“The information we had just before the show started was that he could leave Roma this month and they would allow him to leave for around £35m.
“They were willing to let him go on a permanent or a loan with an obligation. The clubs interested were Spurs, West Ham and Borussia Dortmund in the background.
“Spurs interested in signing him on loan plus an obligation to buy deal.
“But just before we came on air, I received an update that said ‘no offer from Spurs, Roma won’t sell or loan this window’.
“Although other sources, especially at Sky in Italy, said Roma were prepared to let him go for around £35m.”
Big blow for Spurs
Bad news for Tottenham, who were seemingly eager to bring Zaniolo to N17 this month.
90Min had reported that both Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici were big fans of the 23-year-old.
Now, it looks as though Spurs will have to wait until the summer for him. And really, they need reinforcements now.
Conte has found himself without Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison at various points this term.
Tottenham are also slipping down the table, and are now five points adrift of the top four.
Zaniolo would’ve been a good shout. But now, unless Spurs do come back with a huge offer and Roma change their minds, it looks as though they’ll have to look elsewhere.
