Tottenham transfer news: Paratici battling Juventus for Stefan Posch
Tottenham Hotspur are one of the sides interested in signing Austria international Stefan Posch, with Calciomercato. It reporting that Fabio Paratici is battling with Juventus for the defender.
Spurs are definitely going to be one team to keep an eye on in the final weeks of the January transfer window. They are yet to make a signing this month. But it certainly appears that they need further reinforcements, with Tottenham currently outside the top-four in the Premier League.
The defence has been surprisingly vulnerable of late. They have kept one clean sheet in the top-flight since mid-October.
Tottenham eye Posch – presumably as summer target
Right wing-back remains a problem for Antonio Conte. Meanwhile, the likes of Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies have been disappointing this term. And Clement Lenglet has hardly been a spectacular loan signing.
With that, it appears that they do want to make a signing in that area of the field. And the latest name in the frame is Posch. Though they may have to wait until the summer for a deal.
According to Calciomercato. It, Spurs and Juventus both want the 25-year-old. Meanwhile, Bologna have the option to make his loan move from Hoffenheim permanent.
It will cost £4.4 million to trigger the option. Meanwhile, Calciomercato. It reports that his asking price has now doubled to £8.8 million and could be as high as £10.6 million.
It must be noted that Posch played for Hoffenheim this season before his switch to Bologna. Therefore, Tottenham would presumably be looking at the Austrian as a potential target for the summer.
Paratici does like to look for potential value on the market. And Posch – who played alongside Ryan Sessegnon in the Bundesliga – would not command an eye-watering sum. However, it is hardly a move Tottenham fans will be particularly excited about.
Spurs have a good squad. They arguably now need more marquee names to take themselves to that next level.
Posch is one of the best performing centre-backs in Europe’s top leagues when it comes to tackling and blocks (via FBRef). And he can also play at right-back. But he is not exactly a household name.
So there may be doubts about whether he is so much better than what they already have in those areas.
