Tottenham transfer news: 'Incredible' player wants to leave his club after Spurs bid
Sky Sport Italy claims Nicolo Zaniolo now wants to leave AS Roma, after Tottenham Hotspur have just launched a bid to sign him.
Antonio Conte will be eager for Tottenham to step-up their attempts at bolstering his squad over the next 12 days, with the club yet to make a signing this month.
Spurs are seemingly targeting bringing another attacking player, as well as a right wing-back, after injuries to Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison in recent weeks.
The north Londoners were heavily linked with a move for Zaniolo over the summer, but Corriere Dello Sport reported that their old boss Jose Mourinho convinced the 23-year-old to stay in Rome.
Now, it seems that Spurs are rekindling their interest in the attacker and have even had a loan offer turned down by the Serie A outfit.
Zaniolo wants to leave Roma after Tottenham bid
Sky Sport reports that Zaniolo has been made available for transfer by Roma after his performances have dropped off this season.
It even led to the player being booed by the Roma faithful during their 1-0 win over Genoa earlier this month.
Yet, Zaniolo still has plenty of admirers across Europe and the Italian club are thought to value him at around £35 million.
The outlet notes that Spurs have already made an offer to take Zaniolo on loan, but the conditions of the obligation to buy the player did not meet Roma’s demands. The playmaker’s agent will now look at securing a move away from the Italian capital over the next few days.
Zaniolo has been described as an ‘incredible’ talent but he isn’t enjoying his best season in Rome.
The attacking-midfielder has only managed one goal in 13 Serie A appearances this season. But he has been more influential in the Europa League, having scored once and provided three assists.
The Italian has mainly operated through the middle under Mourinho this season but he has proven himself to be an incredibly versatile player who can also play on either wing.
Spurs certainly need another forward after Conte’s attacking options have been hit with injuries this season. Zaniolo could be a decent addition to the Italian’s squad but they probably won’t be able to rely on him to provide some much-needed creativity in the final third.
His numbers aren’t brilliant for Roma as he’s only managed 10 assists in 93 Serie A appearances, but he’s an exceptional ball-carrier and that is something Spurs are also lacking at the moment.
