Tottenham transfer: 22-year-old reportedly wanted by Galatasaray

Tottenham have received a loan offer from Turkish giants Galatasaray for versatile defender Japhet Tanganga, according to The Telegraph.

The Spurs academy graduate has fallen down the pecking order somewhat. He could be allowed out on loan and the offer will give Nuno Espirito Santo a decision to make.

Tanganga was used sparingly last season. He has been used quite frequently in pre-season, however, with the new boss keen to take a proper look at him.

He played against MK Dons last night and earned rave reviews for his performance. Spurs are, however, eyeing new defenders and that will force him back to the order.

In total, Tanganga has played 24 times for Tottenham. He has showcased the ability to play in either full-back position or at the heart of the defence.

At 22 it’s getting to the stage where Tanganga really needs to play football. With that in mind, the loan offer from Galatasaray looks appealing.

Last season, Ryan Sessegnon shone at Hoffenheim and a loan in a different country might have the desired effect on Tanganga too.

Espirito Santo might be unwilling to let him leave just yet. With Toby Alderweireld now departed, he is extremely short at centre-back.

Once the ball gets rolling on an arrival in that position, however, the club will weigh up whether to allow him a move or not.

Despite not using him much, Jose Mourinho was a big fan. He previously called him ‘amazing’ and ‘fantastic’ for his efforts when called upon.

Tottenham must tread carefully with Tanganga

After impressing in pre-season it would perhaps be a blow for the youngster if he was farmed out on loan.

What Tottenham have to be very careful with is squad depth. As a utility defender, Tanganga wouldn’t be a bad player to have around the squad.

Espirito Santo isn’t overly convinced by Matt Doherty or Serge Aurier and he’s yet to sign a right-back.

Alderweireld’s departure also leaves Tottenham with a void to fill at the heart of the back four.

It’s fair to say he would welcome the regular action. Tanganga is facing a big couple of years and signing for Galatasaray should be the catalyst for a Tottenham place.
