Tottenham teenager Malachi Walcott has staged a Q&A session on his Instagram story over the past 24 hours and he has named a Liverpool player when asked who his favourite footballer is.

Walcott, 17, is showing enormous quality in the Tottenham academy – already playing well beyond his age. Indeed, he has clocked up 11 appearances for Tottenham’s Under-23 side, and earned three caps for England’s Under-17 side.

The centre-back, who has been used in central midfield too by Ryan Mason in the UEFA Youth League side. He is also able to find the back of the net, scoring in Premier League 2 this season during a 2-1 defeat to Brighton.

A defender with enormous potential and certainly showing the right signs to break into Spurs’ senior side, Walcott was asked who his favourite footballer was – and surprisingly named Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk as that man.

TBR’s view – Could Walcott break into senior Spurs side?

There is enormous competition ahead of the Spurs youngster at centre-back, but a gap could be about to open up. Jan Vertonghen is in the final months of his contract, and he could leave the club in the summer.

Similarly, Juan Foyth could also leave after coming close to a loan exit in January. Cameron Carter-Vickers has little future at Spurs, while Japhet Tanganga is being used as a right-back as much as he is at centre-back.

There is room to manoeuvre for Walcott, but he has it all to do.
