Tottenham Hotspur teenager Dennis Cirkin has apparently posted a devastating injury blow on his snapchat account, which shows the left-back’s foot in a protective boot.
Cirkin, 17, is said to be one of the best young talents currently coming through the Tottenham academy. He has starred and captained the Under-18 side, appeared for Ryan Mason’s team in the UEFA Youth League and made the step to Under-23’s.
Indeed, the Irish-born England Under-17 international has played seven times for the Under-23 side. Since Jose Mourinho’s arrival as Spurs manager, the youngster has continued to push towards making his first-team debut.
Cirkin was named on the bench for both FA Cup ties against Middlesbrough, and continues to be a regular member of the club’s second string. However, his injury has come just at the wrong time – and Cirkin captioned the post: “Back to square one again.”
TBR’s view – Cirkin injury a blow, but he has long-term Tottenham future
With Danny Rose seemingly set to leave the club on a permanent basis in the near future, as his contract expires in 2021 and he is currently out on loan, Spurs will need cover and a player to rival Ben Davies at left-back.
Harvey White has recently signed a new deal but he is more suited to playing in central midfield. Jan Vertonghen’s contract expires in the summer, while Ryan Sessegnon is naturally a winger.
Cirkin, meanwhile, is showing all the signs required to break into the senior side. Despite his injury, he has a big chance of making it at Spurs.
