Tottenham targeting two centre-backs ahead of summer transfer window according to report
Tottenham will reportedly look to bring in at least two new centre-backs this summer in an attempt to bolster their defensive ranks ahead of next season, though the club doesn’t expect similar players in their current squad to be sold due to recent performances.
According to football.london, Spurs are keen to refresh their options at centre-back, with the club eager to bring in new faces that will aid with the problems the club have experienced in recent weeks in that position, with the central defence being a large reason as to why Tottenham lost 3-1 to Leeds United this weekend.
The report also states that the club will look to move on similar players if they are to sign new centre-backs, though Tottenham could find it a struggle as the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have underperformed massively for the north London side throughout the season.
The Express have recently reported that Southampton defender Jannik Vestergaard is on Tottenham’s list for the summer, with Lyon centre-back Joachim Andersen also being heavily linked with a move to Spurs after impressing for Fulham this campaign on a season-long loan with the Cottagers.
TBR View: Tottenham defensive overhaul is greatly needed, but sales will be hard
This summer is set to be a defining one for Spurs, with the future of club talisman Harry Kane still in the balance and the search for a new long-term manager likely to come to a head, and the defensive area of the squad will also need examining, with Tottenham conceding too many sloppy errors this season that have cost them vital points.
Yet whilst recruiting new central defenders will be an easy job, selling current players in that role will likely be a challenge given how many of them have underperformed this season. Add in their higher-than-average wages, and Tottenham could find themselves in an awkward position where they might find it difficult to move some big-name stars whose time with the club is at an end.
