Tottenham were in talks with Porto striker Ze Luis over a loan move to offer cover for Harry Kane this month, according to the Times.
But they report that the deal looks ‘unlikely’ now, because the striker with 19 caps for Cape Verde is unlikely to obtain a work permit to play in England.
The 28-year-old was seen as a potential short-term replacement for Kane, who faces an extended spell on the sidelines after hamstring surgery.
Spurs were able to get a loan deal with an option to buy over the line for Gedson Fernandes of Benfica, but the chances of getting a similar agreement done for the hitman who plays for their bitter rivals in Portugal look slim.

TBR’s View – Piatek a far better option than Ze Luis
Ze Luis on loan may well have plugged a gap for a little while, but getting in Krzysztof Piatek would be recruitment on another level.
Piatek is a better age profile, with a great goal record and a style of play which lends itself well to being a supersub once Kane comes back.
Ze Luis would have been an underwhelming recruit during a window where Spurs need quality.
