Tottenham are currently trying to recover from a crushing 2-0 home defeat against Chelsea at the weekend and know they wasted a great opportunity.

Spurs would have been in the top four of the Premier League on Christmas Day with a win, but instead find themselves six points adrift and with plenty of work to do in the second half of the season.

Manager Jose Mourinho has had some good time to assess his squad since his arrival in November and eyes will surely be focused on the upcoming January transfer window.

The North London club could do with a couple of fresh faces to boost the group, but if they could only sign one player next month then they should go all out to try land Leicester City’s Ricardo Pereira.

According to Belgian news outlet GVA, Leicester’s full-back is a target for Spurs ahead of the New Year.

Pereira is the one target that Mourinho’s side have to pursue at all costs, as he would improve the team immensely and could make an immediate impact.

The Portugal international has been immense during 18 months in English football and settled to the Premier League so quickly.

He has to be in the conversation as a strong candidate for best right-back in the Premier League at present and he’s earned a glowing reputation for he high level of his performances.

The 26-year-old is such a solid full-back defensively with his back to goal and it’s been very rare that he’s been carved open by an attacker.

Meanwhile, he makes a real difference going forward and has been directly involved in 13 goals during 57 club games for Leicester.

Mourinho desperately need to fix his defensive to get Spurs back into the top four race, with the current options at right-back simply not good enough and it’s damaging the team’s chances.

Pereira would be a significant upgrade on Aurier and the club should go all out for him in January, even if it takes a monster sum to prize him away from the King Power Stadium.
