Tottenham Hotspur are being heavily linked with Matias Vecino, according to various reports in the Italian media, including Inter Live.
Inter Milan midfielder Vecino is being lined up by Mauricio Pochettino as he aims to bolster his midfield options in North London.
Vecino has all the ingredients to succeed as a holding midfielder at Tottenham, having showcased his ability in Italy since his 2013 move to Fiorentina.
The Uruguay international has played 30 games for Inter this season, scoring three goals and adding two assists.
But his game is more suited to the defensive work required of his position and his tackling and ball retention are two key assets.
Vecino’s potential move to Spurs is not good news for everyone, though. It could push Victor Wanyama further down the pecking order and even force him to seek a permanent exit.
Wanyama has struggled with injuries and form this season, limiting him to just 11 appearances and only two of those have been Premier League starts.
When he is on form, the Kenya international is a dominant defensive midfielder who has the ability to burst forward too.
But Pochettino’s patience might be wearing thin and a move for Vecino suggests he could be looking for an upgrade in that department.
Mousa Dembele departed in January and Wanyama could follow him out of the door if Vecino moves to Spurs.
