Tottenham are reportedly interested in striker Davie Selke from German club Hertha Berlin and may view him as a possible understudy to Harry Kane.

According to Fussball Transfers, Spurs are yet to make an official approach for the 23-year-old, but manager Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of him.

It is understood that the German attacker would be prepared to hold discussions if the Premier League club came knocking and his current deal with Hertha expires in 2022.

Selke impressed last season by scoring 14 goals across all competitions last season, but the Bundesliga ace is currently out of form this term.

The centre-forward has managed just one goal in 16 appearances and is struggling to make his mark in front of goal.

But Pochettino has clearly seen something in the 6ft 4in powerhouse to suggest he could make an impact in his squad and that should be enough for Tottenham to step up their interest in him.

Spurs continue to search for the right striker to play second fiddle to Kane, something which have proved extremely difficult.

Selke has the presence that should be able to cope with the Premier League and at 23 there is still massive potential with him.

Pochettino has a track record of developing young talents and the Spurs board should trust their manager that he may be on to another success story.
