Tottenham are one of several clubs to reportedly watch midfield enforcer Boubakary Soumare at French top-flight club Lille.
According to Foot Mercato, Spurs and Juventus have both scouted the 20-year-old that has been compared to Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.
The report details that Valencia, Borussia Dortmund and Roma also have an eye on him.
Soumare is an upcoming talent in Ligue 1 and he’s made 15 senior appearances for Lille this season.
His comparisons with Pogba are natural, as he’s a French powerhouse that is strong in possession and particularly good at dribbling out of tight spaces.
He’s still a raw talent with very little first-team experience, but certainly possesses great technical quality and lots of strength too.
It’s unclear on if Spurs would be prepared to step up interest in him, but if they did they would be taking a chance on him.
Soumare is the type of midfielder that Mauricio Pochettino’s side need to replace the huge void that Mousa Dembele has left behind in North London.
Dembele provided the perfect combination of a physical presence and also guile to make him the complete midfielder, with the Lille ace showing very small glimpses of that balance.
Soumare could be a long-term solution for Spurs if they chase him, but it looks unlikely he could arrive in the Premier League and overtake the likes of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko in the pecking order straight away.
