Tottenham supporters want to see Gedson Fernandes start against Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur finally return to action on Friday night as they play host to Jose Mourinho’s former side Manchester United at the new stadium – and Spurs fans want a surprise start in midfield.

Spurs come into the match with injured players Son Heung-min, Moussa Sissoko and Harry Kane all available for selection. Jose Mourinho said in his pre-match press conference that all three would start the match.

But it remains to be seen who else will start, after Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat to Norwich City in a behind-closed-doors friendly. Spurs are without a win in their last six competitive matches.

A shake-up could be needed, and it may see a number of fresh faces given a chance to shine with the games coming thick and fast. Gedson Fernandes could be included in the side, despite failing to start a Premier League game.

Indeed, since his arrival from Benfica, Gedson has only managed nine appearances in all competitions – four of which have come from the bench in the Premier League. He could be included to face United, though.

Tottenham supporters are seemingly all for that idea, urging Mourinho to hand the Portugal international a go from the off against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men – who come into the match 11 games unbeaten.

His inclusion would be somewhat of a surprise, given he is yet to start a Premier League match under Mourinho.
