Tottenham supporters react as Mouscron reportedly eyed Joao Sacramento

Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Joao Sacramento was reportedly a target for Belgian side Mouscron ealier this week but the Portuguese now looks set to stay at Spurs after Mouscron made a different appointment – and Spurs fans have responded.

Sacramento, 31, joined Tottenham in 2019 following the arrival of Jose Mourinho. He had worked for Lille as the club’s assistant for 120 matches, while previously working at AS Monaco as a scout. It remains to be seen how long he has left on his contract.

Mouscron sacked Fernando Da Cruz – who Sacramento worked under briefly at Lille – after failing to win a single match as manager of the Belgian side. They had drawn three and lost six, despite a tenth-placed finish last term.

Belgian website Le Soir claimed this week that they wanted to raid Tottenham and lure Sacramento to Mouscron in what would be his first ever manager’s role. Certainly, he is well-respected at Spurs and a crucial part of Mourinho’s coaching staff.

However, it appears that Sacramento will now stay at Spurs, after Mouscron announced they had appointed a new manager. Former Braga boss Jorge Simao has been confirmed as Mouscron’s new gaffer, who has signed a new deal until the summer.

Tottenham supporters have reacted to the news that Mouscron have opted against hiring Sacramento and have instead brought in Simao, with many delighted to hear that their assistant will be staying in north London.
