Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has told his Here We Go podcast that Son Heung-min is “really close” to signing a new Tottenham Hotspur contract that could see him stay until he is almost 34 – and Spurs fans have responded.
Son, 28, currently has three years left on his current Tottenham contract but it is believed that talks are ongoing to extend the South Korea star’s deal. He has been on fire this season, scoring 13 goals in 17 games – as well as laying on six assists.
His relationship with Harry Kane is arguably the best double act in the Premier League at the moment – with Kane having a hand in 27 goals during his 26 appearances. On Sunday in the win over Arsenal, Kane and Son combined with aplomb.
Kane laid the ball to Son for the ex-Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg star’s opener, before Son returned the favour for Kane’s left-footed effort. Romano spoke about Son’s contract in his latest podcast, confirming a deal is close to completion.
“There are good feelings to seeing Son extend his contract with Tottenham,” Romano said. “It’s really close to an agreement. It’s not done yet, so we have to wait before saying ‘here we go!’
“But the agreement is getting closer, probably a five or six-year deal. Everybody in this deal wants to sign the new contract. Son is so happy with Tottenham. The new contract is coming in some weeks.”
If Son puts pen to paper on a six-year deal, as Romano claims, he will be contracted to Spurs until he is almost 34. Certainly, born on July 8, a potential deal until June 2026 would see him leave just eight days before his 34th birthday.
Tottenham supporters reacted on Twitter to Romano’s claim that Son is closing in on a new contract at Tottenham – and many are delighted at the update, praying that a deal gets over the line.
If son stays Kane stays! Get it signed at all costs! They attract other players to the club, privilege to have them play in white. 🔥
