Bruno Fernandes scored twice as Manchester United cruised past Brighton & Hove Albion to keep their chances of breaking into the top-four alive – and Tottenham Hotspur supporters have reacted to Fernandes’ display on Twitter.
Mason Greenwood clocked up his 40th appearance of the season for Manchester United on Tuesday night at the Amex, and he scored his 13th of the season to open the scoring – after some dazzling footwork.
But it was the Fernandes show from that point in. Paul Pogba’s cut-back saw Fernandes’ effort squirm past Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan to make it two, before Greenwood’s cross was volleyed home by Fernandes in the second half.
It saw 25-year-old Fernandes take his tally to six goals and four assists in 13 Manchester United outings. Fernandes, who cost an initial £47million (BBC) in January, once claimed Spurs were the first English side to show interest.
“After the UEFA Nations League there were already many contacts, especially with Tottenham. It was the team that wanted me the most and was the only one I agreed to talk with,” Fernandes told Record, as per Football London.
“Tottenham fitted into everything I wish I had at that moment. It is an appealing championship. Knowing they would be willing to pay for me and make every possible effort to take me, leaves a player eager to take that step.”
For Spurs fans to hear those quotes and then see the Portuguese ace shine in a Manchester Unites shirt will be hard. His performance on Tuesday night is something that Spurs somewhat lack, since the loss of Christian Eriksen.
With United now seven points ahead of Spurs – though there is a game in hand – envious Tottenham fans watched on as Fernandes produced a masterclass to down Brighton. Many discussed what could have been.
We really missed out on not getting Bruno Fernandes.

Whoever at #THFC decided that Tanguy Ndombele was a better bet than Bruno Fernandes at €65M needs to be heading for the exit door…..if they've not already walked through it

Watching United play with Bruno Fernandes I do wonder what would have been if #THFC landed him under Poch last August.

Just unbelievably depressing isn’t it? Grealish, Fernandes and Dybala could all very easily have been Spurs players.
