In the middle of June, the start of the Premier League season in August feels a long way off, so any taste of elite domestic action is devoured by fans.
That goes some way to explaining why the announcement of the official fixture list is so hotly anticipated, but in fairness, the scheduling of fixtures can go a long way towards determining a team’s fate.
A particularly tough early run can kill momentum, tricky trips after European excursions can be a killer and a difficult run-in can make all the difference.
They have their first game of the season at home – in their new stadium – and it’s something of a novelty for the supporters.
So many of them were absolutely buzzing to kick off the campaign on their own turf – hosting newly-promoted Aston Villa on the season’s first Saturday and we’ve got the best of the reaction…
It’s coming home
