Tottenham centre-forward Fernando Llorente has confirmed he would like to extend his contract with the club.

The 34-year-old will see his current deal with Spurs expire at the end of the season and as it stands he will become a free agent in the summer.

He’s been an understudy to Harry Kane since he joined from Swansea City in 2017 and has been an important first-team player this season.

He’s made 32 appearances this campaign across all competitions, scoring eight goals and supplying five assists in return.

The Spaniard has confirmed that he would like to extend his stay into next season with the North London club, but that it’s been put to one side until the season ends.

Spurs are still fighting for a top four finish in the Premier League and are also 1-0 down after the first leg of a Champions League semi-final against Ajax.

“I would love to stay for another year, but the truth is I am not thinking much about that right now,” Llorente told Sky Sports.

TBR’s View:

Llorente has popped up with some vital goals this season for Spurs and filled his role extremely well as a back-up striker.

The target man is not the most mobile and doesn’t have great pace, but is a threat in the air and has the experience of playing at the highest level.

With his contract expiring in the summer, there would be no harm giving him a one-year extension and he’s proven his value in the squad.

Llorente scored a vital goal in the Champions League quarter-finals against Manchester City and he’s recognised as a popular member in the squad.

He offers a different threat to Kane in the final third and should be kept around another year.
