There has been a lot of talk about Tottenham Hotspur and their chances of making the Champions League places this season.

The north Londoners have done some great business this summer and now have a squad packed with quality.

The most eye-catching addition was obviously Gareth Bale – the Welsh superstar returning to Spurs on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is already proving to be a bargain, and the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son have flown out of the traps.

But there’s one man at Spurs right now who no one is really talking about – and that’s Steven Bergwijn, who joined the club in January.

The Dutchman has kind of faded into the shadows a little since his explosive debut against Manchester City, which was followed by goals against Wolves and Manchester United.

Given the host of new options at the club, one gets the feeling Bergwijn has been somewhat forgotten about – but he can prove absolutely key for Mourinho in 2020/21, especially with club competing across four competitions.

The world-class Heung-min Son will be playing every game for Spurs, and Gareth Bale should also feature heavily once he’s back fully fit.

Undoubtedly there will come periods where Son and Bale are both jaded.

Bergwijn – who cost a reported £27m to sign from PSV Eindhoven (BBC Sport) – has the potential to make a massive impact for Spurs when they are in need of someone to just inject a bit of pace and directness.

Few have spoken about him amid the fanfare over Bale and Carlos Vinicius joining, as well as Son and Kane starring, but the 23-year-old remains a dangerous weapon capable of wearing out tired full-backs.
