Real Madrid produced an excellent display to beat Barcelona 3-1 during Saturday’s El Clasico at the Nou Camp as Ronald Koeman’s tricky start to life as Barca boss continues – and Tottenham star Sergio Reguilon has praised Thibaut Courtois.
Barcelona finished the weekend in a lowly 12th position in the La Liga table having won just two of their opening five league games. Koeman has been tasked with returning Barcelona to their best, but they are some way away from that right now.
Zinedine Zidane’s side took the lead after five minutes, through Fede Valverde. Ansu Fati did equalise moments later, but the Real veterans proved decisive – as Sergio Ramos won and scored a penalty, before Luka Modric netted brilliantly late on.
It was not all one-way traffic, though. Lionel Messi had a glorious chance in the first half, but his near-post effort was superbly turned around the corner by former Chelsea stopper Courtois. The big Belgian posted on Instagram after the away win.
Reguilon has spoke publicly of his love for his boyhood club Real Madrid – who are believed to have a buyback option inserted in Reguilon’s Tottenham contract. Whether such a move occurs remains to be seen going forward.
But it is clear that the Spurs flyer remains in contact with his former Real teammates and obviously is still a fan – after he posted a four-word verdict on Courtois in the comments on the goalkeeper’s post. He told the ex-Chelsea man: “You are very good.”
