Victor Wanyama has been quoted by All Africa as saying that it was “unfortunate” not to have secured a move away from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, as he reportedly came close to a move to Club Brugge.
Wanyama, 28, has plummeted down the pecking order with injury and the signing of Tanguy Ndombele leaving the Kenya captain with little chance of playing for Tottenham. He has managed just two substitute appearances in the Premier League.
The Standard claim he came close to leaving Tottenham in the summer, only to reject a move to Brugge at the last minute. The Evening Times claim Wanyama’s former side Celtic are on ‘red alert’, given his situation ahead of the January window.
Wanyama, who earns £65,000 a week at Tottenham (Spotrac), is currently with the Kenya national side who play Mozambique on Sunday. He was quoted as saying that it was ‘unfortunate’ that he did not leave Tottenham in the summer.

“For me, I am a professional player and sometimes you have to wait until everything is done.,” Wanyama said. “Things were good but unfortunately the transfer didn’t happen.
But I have to put my head down and work hard in training to be back on top form. I will keep working and wait for my chance in the team.”
TBR’s view – Wanyama has got to leave Tottenham in January
Not only because Tottenham want him off the wage bill and some money back for his signature, but because the former Southampton midfielder’s reputation is only going to diminish if he continues to rot on the Spurs sidelines.
His career is on the line and Wanyama needs to leave at the earliest opportunity. January is that time, and a move to Celtic or Club Brugge would be ideal for the powerhouse midfielder.
