Tottenham Hotspur star Ryan Sessegnon has put north London rivalry aside to heap praise on Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe, after the latter made his first Premier League start for the Gunners on Saturday at Goodison Park.
Smith-Rowe, 19, started against Everton but failed to make an impact as the two sides played out a 0-0 draw in front of their new managers Mikel Arteta and Carlo Ancelotti. It was Smith-Rowe’s 12th appearance for Arsenal so far.
The England youth international lasted 66 minutes of the clash before being replaced as Joe Willock came on with Freddie Ljungberg trying to find a winner ahead of Arteta’s arrival. It remains to be seen if Arteta will stick with Smith-Rowe.
The youngster was frustrated on Instagram after the match as Arsenal failed to gain all three points, but the youngster did state his pride at being afforded a first Premier League start – in what was just his 15th senior outing in professional football.

Sessegnon, who was signed by Tottenham from Fulham for £25million in the summer (BBC), has played alongside Smith-Rowe for England’s youth teams. Smith-Rowe has two caps for England’s Under-20 side, and four for the Under-19 side.
Former Fulham star Sessegnon replied to Smith-Rowe’s Instagram post, commenting “well done bro”.
