Rodrigo Bentancur has shared what Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou told him while he was out injured.

Bentancur made his long-awaited return from injury at Selhurst Park last week after spending the past eight months on the sidelines.

The 26-year-old damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the defeat at Leicester City back in February.

It’s been a long road to recovery for the Uruguayan and he’s been forced to watch Tottenham’s brilliant start to life under Ange Postecoglou from the sidelines up until now.

But Bentancur insists that Postecoglou has ‘trusted’ him from the moment he arrived from Celtic over the summer.

What Postecoglou told Bentancur while he was out injured

Speaking to Spurs Play, Bentancur shared what Postecoglou said to him while hen was recovering from his ACL injury.

“I remember I bumped into the manager by the stairs,” Bentancur recalled. “He asked me how I was, how I was feeling, how the injury was.

“He gave me his trust from minute one, telling me to take it easy, to make sure that I came back fully fit and that there was no rush, and also to try to come back at the same level that I left because I was playing really well.

“Now it’s just about getting back up to speed gradually, and to try and get back to the levels that I was before. That’s the idea.” as quoted by Football.London.

Bentancur was a key man for Tottenham last season right up until his campaign was brought to an abrupt end.

The Uruguay international quickly established himself as a key part of Tottenham’s midfield under Antonio Conte after signing from Juventus in January last year.

It will be a huge boost for Spurs to have the midfielder back in action and he’s expected to suit Postecoglou’s style of play.

Of course, Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and James Maddison have excelled as a midfield three so far this season. But it will only benefit Postecoglou to have another quality option in the middle of the park.

Should Bentancur get back to the level he was playing at before the injury, Spurs will have an exceptional player to call upon.
