Tottenham Hotspur star Moussa Sissoko has claimed during a Q&A session on Instagram that his childhood hero growing up was Arsenal’s Invincibles captain Patrick Vieira – given he was a regular in France’s international side.
Sissoko, 31, remains a crucial part of the Tottenham side, so much so that he signed a new contract earlier this year to keep him at the club until the summer of 2023 – when he will be almost 34 years of age. He has 167 Spurs outings to his name.
Vieira, a 107-time France international, earned the reputation as one of the Premier League’s best ever midfielders after clocking up more than 400 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners. He captained the Invincibles side.
Asked during a Q&A session on Instagram who he felt was his idol, Sissoko put aside north London rivalry to admit that Vieira has been his childhood hero growing up – given that Vieira is arguably one of France’s best ever players.

TBR’s view – Can Sissoko have Vieira-like impact at Tottenham?
This season, things are happening at Spurs. Jose Mourinho’s side have added consistency and an ever bigger goal threat to a side that showed glimpses towards the end of last season. Defensively, they are still slightly shaky, but are improved.
With Liverpool and Manchester City stuttering during the early stages of the season, Tottenham are certainly best-placed to go and take advantage. If £80,000-a-week Sissoko (Spotrac) can play like his idol, a title challenge is on the horizon.
