Tyrone Mings made his debut for England on Monday night as the Three Lions cruised past a beleaguered Bulgaria side to win 6-0 in Sofia. Tottenham ace Harry Kane as well as ex-Aston Villa duo Stephen Warnock and Ian Taylor applauded the defender.
Mings, 26, was subjected to racial abuse from a section of the Bulgaria fans – most notably during the second half. He was one of a number of England players to have been targeted, which saw UEFA implement their racism protocol.
It almost saw the match abandoned, while around 50 supporters were removed from the stadium at half-time. Even Bulgaria captain Ivan Popov was seen at half-time pleading with the Bulgaria fans to stop the racist abuse.
Despite all that, Villa’s £26.5million (Guardian) summer signing was in excellent form. He partnered Harry Maguire as Gareth Southgate’s men eased to victory, and the former Bournemouth star posted on Instagram after the match.

England have struggled defensively of late, conceding three goals in a 5-3 win over Kosovo before losing to Czech Republic last Friday. It saw Southgate bring in Mings alongside Maguire – opting to pick the left-footed star over Liverpool’s Joe Gomez.
The gamble paid off and it is likely to cement Mings’ place in the team for November’s international break. Kane applauded Mings on his debut, while Warnock and Taylor were in awe of the defender – especially given the abuse he received.
