Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has heaped praise on teammate Richarlison after his World Cup exploits. The Brazilian scored twice as he helped his country defeat Serbia 2-0 in their opening game in Qatar.
One of the forward’s goals was scintillating. His stunning bicycle kick will go down as one of the tournament’s great strikes and it could even win the Goal of the Tournament at this stage.
Richarlison moved to Tottenham during the summer. He cost the club £60 million and was deemed something of a surprise signing by the club when they took the punt to sign him from Everton.

His time in North London has started in pretty ordinary fashion. He’s been injured for some of the 2022/23 campaign and has failed to find the net in the Premier League for his new club.
Richarlison has a brilliant goalscoring record for Brazil though. He’s collected 39 caps for his country and has found the net 19 times; largely featuring as a striker when called upon by his country.
Lloris sees the 25-year-old on a daily basis in training. After his World Cup beauty of a goal, the France goalkeeper has raved about his teammate and the quality he brings to any team.
He told The Telegraph: “I’m happy for him. He’s probably the least fancied player of the team but he’s a fighter and he showed the part of genius that he has in him.”

The goalkeeper might have to come up against the forward at some point in Qatar. France will hope to retain their title and they might cross paths with Brazil at some point during the tournament.
Richarlison is a cracking player on his day. During his time at Everton, however, his good days came all too infrequently and consistency is definitely the order of the day for the forward.

Still, he’s only young. Richarlison could thrive under a taskmaster like Antonio Conte and moving to London does look like a decent move for his career.
The challenge for Tottenham is to get Richarlison firing on a regular basis – as he does for Brazil. If Conte can do that then Spurs could have a serious player on their hands in the future.
