As Jose Mourinho approaches a year in charge at Tottenham, it looks like the Portuguese manager has his team heading in the right direction and they are currently just a point off the top of the Premier League table.

There are some that are struggling to nail down a spot under him, but plenty are thriving under his tutelage including forwards Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane.

Another individual that Mourinho has managed to help get the best out of is Eric Dier, who is currently away on international duty with England.

The Spurs boss has managed to ignite a new spark in the 26-year-old’s career and the decision to move him from a midfielder to a centre-back has been a brilliant one.

Dier is now playing with real confidence as a nailed-on starter in the centre-back position and he is part of a backline that are starting to improve defensively, especially with two clean sheets in the last three league games.

The 26-year-old is now able to use his dominant ability in the air more regularly and is becoming a leader at the back.

He’s now joint-top in the Premier League for the most headed clearances (25) alongside West Ham’s Fabian Balbuena (Premier League’s official website) and it indicates that Mourinho made a brilliant decision with him.

His versatility has been his downfall at times, but current boss Mourinho has faith in him as a no-nonsense centre-back that can read the game well, play out from the back and play a key role for the North London club.
