Christian Eriksen has told Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet that he wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur to “try something new” amid constant rumours linking him with a move to Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old is in the final 12 months of his contract at Tottenham, and has been strongly linked with a move to Zinedine Zidane’s side this summer. A move is yet to materialise, but a new contract seems unlikely.
This season, Eriksen has had a hand in 27 goals during his 51 league and cup appearances. He has found the back of the net 10 times, but proved more effective in creating assists, laying on 17 strikes.
Speaking ahead of Denmark’s European qualification clash against the Republic of Ireland on Friday evening, Eriksen told media that he wants to try something new – in what is the clearest hint that he wants to leave Spurs.

“I feel that I am a place in my career where I might want to try something new,” Eriksen said. “I have the wildest and deepest respect for Tottenham. It is not negative. But I have also said that I would like to try something new.
“I hope there will be a clarification during the summer. That’s the plan. In football you do not know when a clarification comes. It can happen anytime.
“It depends on Daniel Levy. And another club has to come. Or I have to sit down at the table and negotiate a new contract. You can’t set a date yourself.”
TBR’s view
For Tottenham and Levy, it is about raking in as much cash as possible for Eriksen. Spanish newspaper AS have claimed that Real are unwilling to pay more than £62million for Eriksen.
But that would be a blow for Spurs, who will surely want to push Eriksen’s asking price towards the £100million mark. SPORT claimed in April that Spurs slapped an asking price of £130million on Eriksen’s head.
A compromise needs to be found with Eriksen now making it abundantly clear that he wants to leave.
