Martin Odegaard has posted on Instagram after he completed a loan move to Arsenal from Real Madrid, underlining his delight to have joined the North London side – and Tottenham star Sergio Reguilon has responded, as has Erling Haaland.
The 25-time Norway international has finally been confirmed as Arsenal’s new number 11 after weeks of speculation. The 22-year-old has joined the Gunners on a dry loan deal, that does not include a permanent basis and will last until the summer.
Odegaard was allowed to leave Real after struggling to get game time. He has managed just five minutes of action since returning from an excellent loan spell at Real Sociedad last season – in which he scored nine goals and created seven more in 36 games.
Arsenal have moved swiftly to bring him in amid reports that other Premier League clubs – such as Leicester and Tottenham – had been offered the former Vitesse loanee. Odegaard posted on Instagram following confirmation on Wednesday.
Odegaard will now be seen as direct competition for Emile Smith-Rowe in the number 10 role – with the Europa League knockout rounds on the horizon. The Gunners cannot rely on Smith-Rowe to play two games every week.
Plenty have responded to his post. Ex-Madrid teammate and now Tottenham man Reguilon put side North London rivalry to welcome him to London, while Arsenal-linked Sander Berge and Norway teammate Haaland also commented.
Haaland’s message is translated as: “Drive, Oddinho.”
