Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min may have scored twice in the club’s first pre-season friendly but he told the Spurs website that he’s “a bit angry” with himself for missing several chances.
Jose Mourinho’s charges hosted Ipswich at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Saturday and were quick out of the blocks as Ryan Sessegnon opened the scoring after just six minutes.
Dele Alli split the Blues defence open with a great pass through the middle which Sessegnon ran on to before cutting inside and slotting home.
Son then weighed in with a brace, his first coming from yet more great work from Alli, before adding a second via a measured chip over the opposition goalkeeper for a 3-0 victory.

However, the South Korea ace did also miss a great chance just before the break, failing to put away Gedson Fernandes’ delivery.
“I’m a bit angry because I missed another couple of chances,” Son told the Spurs website.
“This is what I have to look for this season, to be sharp and to be better than last season. I’ve had 10 years of pre-season in Europe now and it’s always so good to score goals, especially in the first game, you want to start with confidence.
“We’ve trained for a week and the first game is always so important. We scored three goals in the first half, and it could have been more. We created many chances and maybe we deserved more goals, but we missed some chances, missed some final passes, but it’s the first game and we know we can do better.”
TBR View:
Last season was difficult to say the least for Tottenham, who endured several scares – including a crisis up front when Son and Harry Kane were injured – before salvaging Europa League qualification at the last.
Spurs’ pre-season win over Ipswich was a good run-out and Son was in great form, but the fact he’s quite critical of himself as he felt he could’ve done better will be music to the fans’ ears, a sign of a great attitude and desire to improve.
As far as work-rate, commitment, attitude and performances go, Son is up there amongst the best at Spurs, and his latest comments are testament to this – hopefully there will be much more to come from him and the team next term.
