Journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke has shared what the Tottenham Hotspur staff behind the scenes make of Guglielmo Vicario following his move to North London in the summer.

Guglielmo Vicario has proved to be an outstanding signing for Ange Postecoglou’s side on the pitch. Of course, despite Hugo Lloris’ decline, there was no doubt that it was going to take someone special to fill his void.

The Italian has done that in some style. Vicario has potentially been the best goalkeeper in the Premier League so far this season.

The 27-year-old is an unbelievable shot-stopper, already producing a number of highlight-reel-worthy saves for Spurs. Meanwhile, he is very good and very confident with his feet. And that plays a role in allowing Tottenham to play such a high line.

But it seems that it is not only Vicario’s performances on the pitch which are winning admirers. Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Pitt-Brooke noted that those at Hotspur Way only have good things to say about the former Empoli man.

“He’s the complete package. He’s a really smart and interesting guy and I know the staff at Tottenham love him, he speaks perfect English, he’s incredibly good with the kids, not just the lads in the Tottenham academy but also the community projects and so on. He’s a brilliant character and the kind of character you need in the dressing room,” he said.

An absolute steal for Spurs

It is remarkable that Tottenham were able to uncover this gem for just £17 million. In today’s game, that is an absolute steal.

But few of us knew a lot about Vicario before his arrival. James Maddison admitted that he had barely heard of Vicario before he signed.

On current form, there seems to be little reason why he cannot spend the best part of the next decade as a key player in the Tottenham team.

Certainly, many at Spurs would clearly love to see him stick around for a long time.
