Tottenham staff already think new signing’s fitness levels are ‘incredible’, journalist says

Alasdair Gold has said on his Youtube channel that Tottenham Hotspur insiders have told him that Emerson Royal’s fitness levels are incredible.

Tottenham snapped up Emerson on deadline day from Barcelona, as they finally secured the addition of a right-back.

Emerson’s arrival should help Spurs massively in a defensive sense, although he perhaps isn’t the most widely known.

As a result Gold did some digging both at Tottenham and abroad for information on the new Brazilian in town.

Those in Spain apparently feel that Emerson still has quite a bit of developing today.

But at Tottenham, Emerson is regarded highly – with staff feeling that his athletic qualities are really remarkable.

“I asked a few journalists in Spain and their reviews were quite mixed,” Gold said.

“It was very much, he’s a work in progress. A lot of people point to his last season at Betis and say that he did very well in that season, that could be a sign that he is developing.

“Those I spoke to in and around Tottenham is that the feeling they have got about him is that he is athletically superb, his fitness levels are incredible.

“They think technically he’s not entirely what you expect from a Brazilian, but he likes to get forward.”

Patience required?

Emerson is expected to play a key role at Tottenham after arriving.

He may have to bide his time before breaking into the first-team though.

Japhet Tanganga has begun the campaign in excellent form and established himself as the club’s first choice on the right hand side of defence.

Tottenham are yet to concede a goal in the Premier League after their first three games.

And Nuno may well be reluctant to change his defence, after so much success so far this season.
