Tottenham Hotspur have struck gold in the transfer market on numerous occasions over the past couple of years.

We’ve seen the likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie, Pape Matar Sarr and Guglielmo Vicario all join Spurs and become key players.

These are all players that have been very highly sought after, and now they’re at Tottenham, hoping to usher in a new era of glory under Ange Postecoglou.

Indeed, at the start of the year, Spurs beat two of the world’s biggest football clubs to the signings of two players.

Radu Dragusin was wanted by Bayern Munich, but he picked Tottenham instead, his head turned by the project Postecoglou is leading at N17.

Likewise, Barcelona were after Lucas Bergvall, but Spurs beat the Blaugrana to the Swedish midfield prodigy’s signature.

Although Bergvall’s signature is now on the Tottenham books, the 18-year-old is seeing out the first half of the year at Djurgarden, the club who sold him to Spurs.

Tottenham fans have been following Bergvall’s progress at the Swedish club, and his tally of four goals and four assists from seven outings this season shows just how good he is.

The Spurs signing, speaking to the Swedish media after his goal in the 4-1 win over Goteborg, revealed how hard he has been working in the gym to ensure he can finish his time at Djurgarden on a high and take to the Premier League as quickly as possible.

What has Tottenham signing Lucas Bergvall said about his gym regime?

Asked how much muscle he had put on since the start of last season, Bergvall is quoted by Aftonbladet as saying: “Since the beginning of last season? It’s about eight kilos (17.6 pounds, 1.3 stone). I’m up to 80 kilos something.

“That’s a lot (laughs). A hell of a lot of gym. Legs above all, and a little upper body, but a lot of legs, glutes.”

Asked if he was squatting a lot, he added: “Yes, everything possible. Some Nordic hamstring, RDL (Roman deadlifts), hip thrust and all that.

“It feels like I have become more physical. I go into duels, protect the ball better and work harder.”

It’s good to hear that Bergvall is doing all he can to improve his physicality.

The Premier League can be a pretty unforgiving league, so he’ll want to be able to withstand some of the defensive powerhouses he’ll be up against when he comes to Tottenham.
