Tottenham signing Milan Skriniar could signal the end for Davinson Sanchez already – TBR View

Tottenham are said to be in the hunt for more new players as the final few weeks of the transfer window wind down, with Jose Mourinho desperate to keep improving his squad.

A strong summer has seen big-name signings like Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon arrive at the club, while solid additions such as Mat Doherty, Joe Hart, and Pierre Hojbjerg have added depth and quality to Spurs.

The focus now, it seems, is for the club to add a striker, with Harry Kane in desperate need of support.

However, to the surprise of some, it appears Mourinho is also pressing ahead in pursuit of a new defender. Reports in the last few days have claimed Inter Milan star, Milan Skriniar, is a target for the club.

But while Skiniar would be a brilliant signing and bring stability and quality to the centre of defence, could this be a signal that Mourinho is set to give up on £42m signing, Davinson Sanchez?

Given Mourinho’s record and recent willingness to apparently let Dele Alli go, it wouldn’t come as the biggest surprise.

Still time for Sanchez but Mourinho always wants results quickly

At 24, it would be silly to suggest that Sanchez’s time as a Spurs player is completely over. The club spent big money on him for a start and, in the main, he has performed well for the club.

However, in recent weeks, most notably away at Plovdiv, Sanchez has looked a bit uneasy. Couple that with Mourinho’s obvious love for England man, Eric Dier, and it’s easy to pick out who’d be dropped if Skriniar does indeed sign.

It would, of course, be a huge shame to see Sanchez cast aside. But Mourinho is not afraid to make big decisions in football and if he could bring money back into the club through the sales of Sanchez and Alli, don’t bet against him trying to force the issue.

So, while it could be seen as a rash decision to get rid of the Colombian ace, it’s definitely something Spurs fans shouldn’t rule out in what has been quite the active window for their club.
