In the same way that Denmark’s ‘Pass To Eriksen’ tees are a hipster favourite on the football scene, red and yellow ‘No Isco, No Disco’ tops are also currently all the rage. That is with good reason. Isco has been in sensational form of late and that has continued at the World Cup with Spain.
The Real Madrid star, a firm favourite of former coach Zinedine Zidane’s helped his side to another Champions League triumph last season. He is looking like the successor to the throne Andres Iniesta has sat on for the Spanish national team for so long.
In 2016. He very nearly became a Tottenham Hotspur player.
As reported by The Independent, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino attempted to bring Isco to North London in the summer of 2016. At the time the Spaniard was still a promising talent but was not getting game time at Real Madrid.
It was being commonly reported he was on his way out of Madrid that summer, with Tottenham Hotspur seemingly leading the race for the playmaker.
Real were, as reported by The Express, ready to let Isco leave on loan but the player himself wanted to fight for his place at the Bernabeu.
The rumours did not die. In October that year, with Isco still struggling for football at Real, Marca ran a story entitled ‘Tottenham are crazy for Isco’ which spoke of Pochettino’s love of the player.
He went on to become a star for Madrid that season and is now rightly winning plaudits as one of the game’s best creative midfielders.
But, if only Tottenham had managed to get their man.
