Tottenham Hotspur face some uncertainty regarding the position of central defence.
Mauricio Pochettino knows that he could lose Toby Alderweireld, with Barcelona and Manchester United poised to bid for the Belgian in January.

Jan Vertonghen is still sidelined for the Lilywhites, and it might take him a number of weeks to get back up to speed once he returns.
The club therefore need to think about strengthening in January, and Pochettino and Daniel Levy should monitor emerging Uruguayan centre-half Bruno Mendez.
Mendez, who plays his football in his homeland with Montevideo Wanderers, is a 19-year-old defender.

He has not been on the scene for very long, but has impressed for his country during the latest international break. Firstly on his debut against Brazil, and again against world champions France on Tuesday.
It may be within Tottenham’s interests to at least take a look at the player.
A good move?
Spurs already have Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez among their ranks, meaning Mendez may find a move to north London slightly more appealing.
It could be a great move for the teenager, with Mauricio Pochettino one of the best coaches in the world today for developing young players.

Foyth is the latest player to be proof of that, and Mendez could be the next to benefit from the Argentine’s nous.
Money at the club is expected to be tight following the construction of the new stadium, meaning Spurs might not have the funds to shell out on an established central defender.
Mendez is a potential gem, and looks like he could be the latest top Uruguayan defender following Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez.
Against Brazil, he handled the likes of Neymar and Roberto Firmino admirably.
