Tottenham are in a healthy position right now, with the club in pole position for another top four finish and also looking ahead to a Champions League semi-final with Ajax.
But they need to add more quality to their squad ahead of next season to keep improving, especially in defence if they lose Toby Alderweireld to his £25million release clause (The Sun).
One man that has already cropped up on the Spurs radar is Newcastle United centre-back Fabian Schar, who was reportedly mentioned as a target for the summer back in March.
According to the Mirror, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have the 27-year-old on their radar alongside North London rivals Arsenal.
Newcastle signed the defender last summer for just £3million (BBC) and he’s turned out to be an immense bargain at St James’ Park for their manager Rafael Benitez.

Schar has made a colossal impact at Newcastle since he joined them in the summer and shown he’s a real force in the Premier League.
The Switzerland international is a ball-playing centre-back that has an incredible range of passing and he’s confident in possession.
He’s been an important part of a resilient Newcastle backline where he’s shown leadership and great defensive strength, with his aerial ability catching the eye.
After taking to English football smoothly, he would be a wise target for Spurs to pursue to strengthen their squad even if he does cost considerably more than the £3million Newcastle signed him for.
Schar has a lot of attributes that could make him a good fit for a top-six club and Spurs may be the right match.
