Tottenham should stay at Wembley this season to avoid further farce over stadium

Tottenham have three weeks to get their new stadium ready or they will play the remainder of this season at Wembley, according to the Sun.

They report that there has been a further delay with Tottenham’s new ground, meaning that the north London derby on March 2nd will be played at Wembley, instead of at the new stadium as planned.

And for Spurs to have any chance of playing any games there this season, Daniel Levy must reportedly secure a safety certificate for the arena before the end of February.

Levy has said that the coming weeks are ‘pivotal’ for the new stadium as time runs out to try and get Mauricio Pochettino’s side in there this campaign.

But the stadium has been one of the major sources of gloom for Tottenham this season during a campaign where progress has continued on the pitch despite a failure to recruit in the transfer market amid a battle with post-World Cup fatigue.

The farce has attracted negative headlines to a club that is generally doing things the right way, but the stadium issue should take a back seat as the business end of the season comes into view.

The supporters appear to be apathetic to Wembley now and staying there all season when they had been promised a new stadium may be unpopular – but that is the decision Levy should now take.

Spurs should let football matters take centre-stage and focus on getting that stadium ready for the opening day of next season – staying at Wembley in the meantime.
