Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips caught the eye on Monday night in the FA Cup, which is why Tottenham should look into trying to sign him.
The 24-year-old put in a brilliant display for Championship leaders Leeds in their narrow 1-0 defeat away to Arsenal.
He may have ended up on the losing team, but the midfielder helped run the show at times for the Yorkshire club and World Cup winner Mesut Ozil couldn’t get near him.
Phillips is a defensive midfielder that drops into intelligent areas of the pitch deeper in his half and dictates play for his team on the ball, something he wasn’t afraid to do at the Emirates Stadium.
The Englishman showed the gritty side of his game too with plenty of tackles and blocks.
He has been performing at such a high level under Leeds boss Marcelo Bieslsa in the past 18 months, but the fact he could replicate that against Premier League opponents Arsenal suggests it’s only a matter of time before he ends up in the top-flight.
Spurs should definitely look into trying to raid Phillips, whether that be in January or at the end of the season after he’s tried to get his boyhood club Leeds promoted from the Championship.
The Mirror reported in July 2019 that the North London club were looking into trying to sign him and that he would cost around £30million.
Spurs should definitely reignite interest in a player that looks a potential future England international and could help solve a problem in their current team.
Phillips has all the tools on paper to slot into the team and looks like he could be an upgraded version on Eric Dier.
