Tottenham should move for Julian Draxler as PSG prepare to sell, Mourinho previously wanted him at Man United
Tottenham are in the market for more new players this summer as Jose Mourinho looks to build on a positive finish to the Premier League season.
The north London outfit has already signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart, and Matt Doherty this summer as Mourinho looks to add some steel and experience to his Spurs side.
Next up for the Portuguese coach could be a look at adding quality in attacking areas, where Harry Kane will need support. But the club has also never quite replaced Christian Eriksen. And although the signing of Steve Bergwijn should prove a good one in the long-run, Spurs can still lack that creative spark Eriksen gave them.
Step forward, then, German international, Julian Draxler. The PSG man is said – according to Le10 Sport – to be on his way out of the French club and he could be the ideal player to slot into the Spurs squad this season.
Mourinho wanted Draxler before, could he finally get his man?
It’s remarkable to think that Draxler is still only 26. He is one of those players who has seemed to be around for much longer. But after bursting onto the scene so early in Germany, it’s natural it will feel that way.
He has done little wrong at PSG in fairness to him. The squad there just oozes quality and the German simply doesn’t get the sort of runs in the first XI a player of his calibre might like. Let’s not forget, Draxler is a World Cup winner with Germany.
Draxler has 52 caps for his country. And given that it is Germany, it is obvious he is a top player. However, he made just 11 appearances last season in the league for PSG, although he did contribute five assists. It is worth noting, however, that Draxler did play more than 60 games in the two seasons prior.
Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the 26-year-old. Indeed, the Spurs boss tried to sign him while at Manchester United. Mourinho tried to sign Draxler while he was at Wolfsburg, although a deal never quite materialised.
So, with a return for Christian Eriksen more than unlikely and Spurs needing quality in the final third, a move for Julian Draxler could well represent the perfect piece of business for the club this summer.
