Tottenham should join Chelsea in the race for Sandro Tonali

Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a central midfielder to take the club forward in the future.

With doubts surrounding Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama’s future, Spurs need long-term successors in the middle of the park.

Eric Dier and Harry Winks are the other two options for Mauricio Pochettino but Tottenham need more competition for places.

Their search for a new central midfielder should lead them to Sandro Tonali, one of Europe’s brightest prospects.

Brescia midfielder Tonali is widely regarded as ‘the next Andrea Pirlo’, perhaps owing to his similar hairstyle and his distinctive style of play.

The Italy youth international, who has already been called up to the senior squad, is only playing in Serie B but he is standing out for Brescia in the Italian second tier.

As Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan circle around the 18-year-old, this is a deal that Tottenham need to hijack.

Tonali’s passing ability is an early indication that he can be Pirlo’s natural successor in the Italy national side.

And he could be the ideal creative midfielder for Pochettino at Tottenham if he lives up to his potential.

The talented teenager is not going to be in Serie B for long and Spurs should make a quick move before more clubs start to take notice of the youngster.
