Real Madrid are now the frontrunners to sign playmaker Christian Eriksen from Tottenham after Barcelona slipped out of the race, according to the Independent.
Eriksen’s contract runs out in 18 months time and the Independent report that has raised the prospect of the Dane leaving if a new deal cannot be reached, as he wants to experience another football culture.
The report also claims that people close to the potential deal feel that the possibility of Isco moving to north London as part of the deal is realistic.
Spurs will apparently demand a deal worth in the region of £100m, despite seemingly being in a weak negotiating position given Eriksen’s contract situation.

Eriksen has elevated himself to become one of the world’s best playmakers and his workrate alongside that would make him a very difficult player for Tottenham to replace in the event that he does leave.
Having £100m in the bank would help that – but also serve to push up asking prices across Europe if Spurs entered the market armed with a well-publicized war chest – so engineering a deal worth less cash but with Isco thrown in would be much shrewder business.
That would see a player with a dwindling contract leave in a deal that still gives Mauricio Pochettino a world-class, hard-working playmaker at his disposal and soften the blow of losing Eriksen.
