Tottenham should consider previous reported target Dean Henderson

Hugo Lloris has done a brilliant job at Tottenham since arriving in 2012 from Lyon and has been one of the most consistent performers across Europe during that time.

But the 33-year-old Spurs captain has certainly dipped in terms of form over the last 18 months and there have been a number of individual errors that frustrate fans.

He returned to the starting XI on Wednesday night for the 2-1 win against Norwich City in the Premier League and it’s a big test for him in the remainder of the season to try impress under Jose Mourinho.

Meanwhile, 28-year-old understudy Paulo Gazzaniga has done a decent job filling in during the Lloris injury absence in recent times.

But it does feel that Spurs may be coming to the end of a cycle and should perhaps be on the search for a new number one ahead of next season.

Spurs should consider turning their attention to Dean Henderson, who has been in stunning form in the Premier League this season and looks a future senior England international.

The 6ft 2in goalkeeper spent last season on loan with Sheffield United from Manchester United and he helped them achieve promotion from the Championship.

He returned to the Blades this campaign for another season loan and so far he’s kept eight clean sheets in the Premier League, with Sheffield United the surprise package sat eighth in the table.

The 22-year-old has been a colossus at the back with some stunning reflex saves and most importantly he is a real big presence in his box.

Henderson is exactly the type of quality goalkeeper that may be ideal to succeed Lloris at Spurs and at his young age there is so much potential to improve.

ESPN reported in January 2019 that Spurs were keeping an eye on him due to his impressive displays in the Championship at the time and since then his stock has continued to rise.

According to the Daily Mail, Sheffield United have started talks with Manchester United about a third loan spell next season.

But Spurs really should consider swooping in for a serious talent that is good enough to make a big-money transfer and try offer him a permanent.
